Bed Frames

We started making bed frames because we kept running into the same problem. You buy something that looks right, and six months later it starts to creak. Or the slats sag. Or there is no good place to put the things that used to live under your old bed. So we built one that did not do those things, then we kept going from there. That is still how we work. We assemble every new design ourselves at full size and live with it for a few weeks before anyone else sees it.

Picking a frame mostly comes down to two questions that the photos cannot answer. The first one is whether it actually fits your room, not just the mattress. Check the listed dimensions against the space where it will sit. Measure from wall to wall, then subtract at least two feet for walking around the foot of the bed and opening any nearby doors or closet fronts. A Queen frame might list as sixty inches wide, but the actual footprint includes the headboard depth and any side-rail overhang. Write down those numbers before you decide.

The second question is about what you are willing to maintain. An upholstered headboard looks softer than a metal or wood one, and it absorbs sound better when you sit up to read. It also needs vacuuming occasionally and cannot be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth the way a solid surface can. LED strips along the headboard give you a reading light without a lamp on the nightstand, which frees up surface space.

They also mean there is a power cord that needs to reach an outlet or extension. Drawers underneath give you storage. They also raise the overall height by several inches, which matters if your ceiling fan sits low or your box spring is already thick.

We list weight capacity on most of our frames because we test them that way. The number tells you whether the slats will hold a heavy mattress plus two people without bowing over time. It does not tell you how the frame feels when you roll onto your side or sit on the edge to put your socks on. For that, look at the slat spacing and the material. Metal slats with tight spacing flex less than wider wooden ones. A center support rail makes more difference on a Full or Queen than it does on a Twin.

When yours arrives, clear the floor path to where it goes before you open the box. Have a screwdriver or drill handy even though we include the basic tool. Our frames go together with bolts rather than cam locks, so you can take them apart again later if you move without stripping the hardware. If something does not line up during assembly, loosen everything slightly and work your way around the frame rather than forcing one corner into place.

Measure twice. Check the outlet placement if you want the lights. Then pick the one that fits the room you actually have.
